Where are we at now?

  • People understand that the current images presented in Canadian society sexualize our popular culture and negatively affects relationships and our view of the opposite sex.
  • The pornography industry rakes in $97 billion per year and is a driving force behind sex trafficking.
  • The internet is a major driving force behind the sex industry and can be “invisible” to most Canadians.
  • The breakdown of the family in Canada is a contributing factor to youth and women being at risk.
  • Increased awareness in society of human trafficking as a global and comprehensive issue and that it occurs in Canada.
  • There are many Canadian organizations committed to combating human trafficking and many plans set forth by government and non government organizations.
  • In Canada, there is a good dialogue going on regarding the issue of human trafficking that holds great potential in turning the tide of the exploitation of people.
  • The openness to cooperative approaches between groups is good and yet many are unsure where to partner or who to partner with.
  • There is a varying degree of organization across the country from “not at all” to “effective models making a difference” to a “growing sense of who’s who and what can be done”.
